Tenerife is the largest of the seven Canaries in the Atlantic Ocean. Like the rest of the Canary Islands, it is of volcanic origin The Island is part of the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It includes 31 municipalities.

| The largest city, Santa Cruz, is the capital of the island, it is also the capital of the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and officially co-capital of the autonomous community of the Canary Islands together with Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, The Island’s population is 838,877.

Tenerife Culture |
Tenerife has a rich and very interesting culture demonstrating it by some unique and popular celebrations, which take place every year, such as fiestas and romerías. It is also famous for arts and crafts in the fields of basket-making, embroidery, ceramics and others.

Traditional sports, such as lucha canaria (Canarian wrestling), juego del palo (a stick-based fighting game), or salto del pastor (which involves pole-vaulting down and across steep ravines), are a good example of the preservation of the island’s culture.
Numerous cultural events take place throughout the yea,r such as photography, music, dance and theatre. Worthy of note, are concerts by the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, one of the permanent and most renowned orchestras in Europe. |
